چکیده

The Implicit Association Test (Greenwald, McGhee, & Schwartz, 1998) is a categorization task intended to measure the strength of associations between concepts. The present research investigated the inXuence of individual stimuli on IAT eVects. Exploring implicit attitudes of East and West Germans, we systematically manipulated relatedness of target stimuli to the attribute dimension and, simultaneously, relatedness of attribute stimuli to the target dimension. Two experiments demonstrate the inXuence of stimulus associations as one source that drives IAT eVects. Depending on the strength and the direction of these cross-category associations, the result was either stronger IAT eVects or a decline of IAT eVects. Implications for theoretical models as well as for the interpretation of IAT eVects are discussed.  2005 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.

The inXuence of experimentally created extrapersonal associations on the Implicit Association Test

We examined the inXuence of extrapersonal associations (Olson & Fazio, 2004)—associations that neither form the basis of the attitude nor become activated automatically in response to the object—on the Implicit Association Test (Greenwald, McGhee, & Schwartz, 1998) by experimentally creating both attitudes and extrapersonal associations. The results revealed that participants who were given ext...

Implicit stereotypes and women’s math performance: How implicit gender-math stereotypes inXuence women’s susceptibility to stereotype threat

This experiment examined the eVects of implicit gender-math stereotyping and implicit gender and math identiWcation on women’s math performance under stereotype threat and reduced threat conditions. Results showed that of the three, only implicit gender-math stereotyping moderated stereotype threat eVects on women’s math performance: women who showed less implicit math-gender stereotyping showe...

Does the framing of investment portfolios inXuence risk-taking behavior? Some experimental results

I examine the inXuence of the framing of investment portfolios on the risk-taking behavior of individual investors. Investment portfolios can be presented either in aggregated or segregated framing, meaning that either the overall distribution or the single investments of portfolios are displayed. Previous studies have found that simple lottery portfolios are more attractive if their overall di...

Disparate eVects of plant genotypic diversity on foliage and litter arthropod communities

IntraspeciWc diversity can inXuence the structure of associated communities, though whether litter-based and foliage-based arthropod communities respond to intraspeciWc diversity in similar ways remains unclear. In this study, we compared the eVects of host-plant genotype and genotypic diversity of the perennial plant, Solidago altissima, on the arthropod community associated with living plant ...
